We never had the opportunity to meet Daniel's younger brother, Nathaniel. I'm not even sure he is still carving. But while we were doing business with Daniel, Manuel and Sharon Weahkee, we enjoyed receiving a few pieces from him in the early 2000's.

His style, at that time, was more fluid than Daniel's. His work reminded us of Herb Halate or Lynn Quam with smooth, soft curves and pleasing sillouettes. This large jet bear is the only piece we have by him.

One thing that set the "northern Weahkees" carving apart from their southern Zuni relations was their use of feathers and juniper berries in their offering bundles. I suppose that is the Navajo influence as I have seen both utilized in other Navajo carver's work. It's an attractive addition. Nathaniel probably completed this carving twenty years ago and it's been in our collection since that time. Signed.
