Dave and I traveled to Chaco, Bandelier, Aztec, Hovenweep, and most of the "cliff dweller" sites in the Southwest. We were fascinated by the remote ruins and the lifestyle of these ancestors of today's Puebloan people.
Dave added this bowl to our collection early on and to our best recollection it was purchased on ebay, but we do not have information about the seller or any details about the pot except that we would have made sure it was found on private property. Having seen the pillage of rock shelters in Texas along the Pecos River, we didn't want to contribute to the poaching of important sites, so we limited our purchases to finds by property owners.
According to our research it's circa 1000 AD. We stored "found treasures" in the little bowl and it was kept in our fetish cabinet. It has crazing cracks but no known repairs and appears to be fully intact apart from chips on the rim. It may be worth lots of money .. or it may be a very good reproduction. We honestly have no idea. We have loved it and hope someone else will love it as much!
We looked for and found a very similar redware bowl online that was twice as big in diameter but shallow and we used their asking price of $650. to judge the value of this one. Again - it might be worth more or less depending on authenticity. If it's a fake, it's a beautiful fake! Done in the style commonly called "Anasazi" .. but that is truly a derogatory term used by Navajos speaking of the people they displaced.
Sales are final, so please ask questions prior to purchase.
