This double wolf carving is made from lapis by Carmelia Snow. I believe we purchased it in 1996-7 from an online dealer who was buying from the Sheches prior to our opening of Zuni Spirits.

At the time, Carmelia was married to Arden Kucate, the son of Aaron (d.) and Thelma Sheche. They taught her to carve in the family style. This carving is not as large as the ones we were used to seeing from them, but that might be likely due to the material used. Lapis was more expensive than Picasso marble or serpentine. We saw her work only for a short period of time and this is the only Carmelia carving we have. I do not believe she is still married to Arden, nor did she continue to carve later.

It's difficult to see that this is, in fact, a double wolf, due to the thin profile, but upon closer inspection, you can see that it is, and despite that, the carving will stand alone. The offering bundle is turquoise and red coral. Don't miss this rare opportunity to add a piece of Zuni fetish carving history to your collection. Unsigned.
